Sarà un maggio decisamente intenso quello che si appresta ad affrontare la Top Girls Fassa Bortolo, che volerà in Spagna per affrontare diverse gare del calendario internazionale.
 

Si comincerà con la V Setmana Ciclista Valenciana, gara a tappe di categoria 2.1 in programma dal 6 al 9 di maggio e in cui le atlete della compagine veneta alcune delle migliori atlete al mondo. La corsa a tappe spagnola, che originariamente era prevista a febbraio salvo poi essere posticipata per le restrizioni legate al Covid, presenta un percorso esigente e farà tappa nelle città più importanti della Comunidad Valenciana, da Gandia ad Alicante, passando per Valencia e Vila-Real. Poco meno di 500 km da percorre in 4 tappe, con un percorso variegato e aperto a tutti i tipi di atlete ma la cui classifica si deciderà, molto probabilmente, nella seconda e nella quarta tappa, quando ci saranno da scalare diversi gran premi della montagna di prima e seconda categoria. 

Le ragazze del Team Manager Lucio Rigato saranno al via da Barxeta con ancora vivi i ricordi dell’ultima edizione della Setmana Ciclista Valenciana, avendo portato a casa nel 2020 la maglia bianca di miglior giovane con la lombarda Greta Marturano, che capitanerà le sue compagne anche in questa edizione. Alla Marturano lo staff tecnico ha deciso di affiancare Michela Balducci, Giorgia Bariani, Elisa Dalla Valle, Gaia Masetti, Debora Silvestri e Giorgia Vettorello, creando una formazione competitiva su tutti i terreni e adatta a tutti gli scenari.

“Quando si parla di Valenciana, non può non tornare nella nostra mente quanto abbiamo raccolto nel 2020 – le parole del direttore sportivo Matteo Varago, che guiderà le ragazze in questa trasferta – e questo per noi sarà indubbiamente uno stimolo aggiuntivo, non vediamo l’ora di misurarci nuovamente su queste strade. Le tappe disegnate dagli organizzatori sono molto impegnative, ma ci saranno possibilità per qualsiasi tipo di atleta: dalle scalatrici alle velociste, ma anche per chi avrà il coraggio di andare in fuga. Riteniamo che la nostra squadra sia equilibrata e adatta a questo tipo di percorso, il nostro obiettivo sarà quello di fare bene ogni giorno e di sfruttare ogni opportunità, ma naturalmente cercheremo di avere un occhio di riguardo anche per la classifica generale”.

Le tappe in programma sono:

1. BARXETA – GANDIA 125 Km
2. CASTELLON – VILA-REAL 130 Km
3. SAGUNT – VALENCIA 107 Km
4. FINESTRAT – ALICANTE 114 Km

Dopo un paio di giorni di riposo, le ragazze della Top Girls si sposteranno in Navarra, per partecipare alla Emakummen Women´s Elite Classics e alla Navarra Women´s Elite Classics, rispettivamente il 13 e il 14 maggio. Si tratta di due gare molto impegnative a cui parteciperanno tutte le squadre World Tour e che prevedono dei percorsi decisamente adatti alle scalatrici.

Infine, il 16 e il 18 di maggio la Top Girls Fassa Bortolo sarà al via del Gran Premio Ciudad de Eibar e della Durango-Durango, entrambe gare che si svolgeranno nei Paesi Baschi. Anche in questo caso i percorsi disegnati sono adatti alle scalatrici. Se però la gara di Eibar presenta un arrivo in salita, quella di Durango è decisamente più aperta anche ad altre soluzioni. 

A commentare queste gare è il Team Manager Rigato, anche se non sarà in ammiraglia ma seguirà le sue ragazze da casa: “Le 4 gare che seguiranno il Valenciana presentano delle altimetrie esigenti e adatte più alle scalatrici che ad altri tipo di atlete. Siamo consapevoli che il livello delle avversarie sarà molto vicino al massimo possibile, ma riteniamo di avere le carte in regola per ben figurare. Saremo al via con una squadra affiatata che ha già dimostrato tutte le sue qualità sia individuali che come gruppo, pertanto partiremo ogni giorno sereni ma concentrati  al massimo per portare a casa il miglior risultato possibile. Questa trasferta sarà molto esigente per noi, si tratta di un programma intenso ma che riteniamo possa essere un passo fondamentale per la crescita delle nostre ragazze. Sarà per noi anche l’ultimo grande sforzo di questa prima parte di stagione e per questo ci teniamo a fare bene”.

Le sei atlete che parteciperanno ad ognuna delle quattro gare saranno scelte dallo staff tecnico di volta in volta e verranno comunicate in seguito.

Infine, il Team Top Girls sarà al via della gara open di Sant’Urbano, il 9 maggio, con Vanessa Michieletto, Iris Monticolo e Erika Jesenko.

May is going to be a really intensive month for Team Top Girls Fassa Bortolo,which will be in Spain to participate at several international races.

The start will be the 5th Setmana Ciclista Valenciana, a class 2.1 stage race held from 6th to 9th of May, in which the girls of the Venetian Team will face some of the best riders in the world. The Spanish race, originally planned in February but then postponed due to Covid-19 restrictions, presents a though route and will touch the most important cities of the Comunidad Valenciana region, from Gandia to Alicante, but also Valencia and Vila-Real. Something less than 500 km in 4 stages with a profile which suits all kind of athletes, but the GC will probably be decided in the second and the fourth stages when the peloton will climb several 1st and 2nd category KOMs.

The girls directed by the Team Manager Lucio Rigato will be at the start in Barxeta with great memories from the 2020 edition still alive, when they won the white jersey as best u23 with Greta Marturano, which will lead her teammates also this year. Next to Marturano, the technical staff of the team decided to bring Michela Balducci, Giorgia Bariani, Elisa Dalla Valle, Gaia Masetti, Debora Silvestri and Giorgia Vettorello, creating a competitive lineup for all the scenarios.

“When we talk about Valenciana, it obviously comes to our minds what we did in 2020 – the words of the sport director Matteo Varago, who will lead the girls in this race – and this is going to be an extra motivation for us, we are looking forward to compete on these roads again. All the stages have some difficulties, but there will be chances for all kind of riders: climbers and sprinters, but of course also for those brave enough for a early breakaway. We think that our team is well balanced and that this race suits us, our goal is to be “in the race” every single day trying to catch any chance which comes in front of us, but we will also take a look to the GC”.

After a couple of rest days, Team Top Girls will move to Navarra in order to compete in the Emakummen Women´s Elite Classics and the Navarra Women´s Elite Classics, held on 13th and 14th of May. These are going to be really though races, with profiles for climbers and where all the World Tour Teams will start.

As last, on 16th and 18th of May Top Girls Fassa Bortolo will race at Gran Premio Ciudad de Eibar and at the Durango-Durango, both races held in the Basque Country. Also these two races are mostly for climbers, but if the Eibar race will end at the top of a climb, the Durango one will be open also to the solutions. 

A comment on these races come from the Team Manager of the team, even if he will not be in the race but will follow his girls from home: “The four races after Valenciana have really demanding profiles, which suit mostly the climbers. We are aware that the level of the starters will be close to the best possible, but we think to have the quality to play our cards. We will start with a tight-knit squad which already showed its qualities, both individually and as a team; for this reason we will start everyday calm but focused to get the best result possible. These weeks will be demanding for us, it’s definitely a intense program but we think it’s going to be a important step for the growth of the girls. It will also be the last big effort for this first half of the season, and for this reason we want to do good races”.

The six riders for each race will be chosen race by race from the staff, and will be announced later.

Team Top Girls will also be at the start of the race in Sant’Urbano (Italy), on 9th of May, with Vanessa Michieletto, Iris Monticolo and Erika Jesenko.
